Methadone And Ativan in Q&A
Do you need a perscription for these? I was wondering if you could walk in a a drug store, or anystore that sells medication and buy the product with out the doctors ok.? So morphine/methadone? Xanax / valium/ ativan? I was just wondering if you could. If not is there any types of medication like those ones that you dont need a percription. And i live in Canada and underage?

AH replied: "This must be a joke. In the United States, these are not only prescription medicines, they're controlled substances. Controlled substances require special precautions in dispensing them so they are less likely to be abused. The answer is clearly "no.""

essentiallysolo replied: "in canada and the US, you cannot purchase controlled substances like the ones you mention without a written prescription from a doctor."

x0tayylor0x replied: "wow you do not need to be doing drugs if you dont know this. hahahahha. however, in canada you can get tylenol with coedine over the counter"

Effects of using suboxone with benzodiazepines-10 points? A friend of mine just got out of rehab, and I have seen him nodding since then He switched from methadone to suboxone in treatment. My question is, if suboxone is combined with benzos, like ativan or xanax, does it have the same effects of combining methadone with benzos (does it get you "high")? Where can I find more information (I tried googling this and came up with nothing)? 10 points to the best real answer

Buck Rogers replied: "Yes it does. Perhaps not to the same extent as Methadone. But its very risky. Most of the deaths from subutex/suboxone are from mixing it with benzos and/or alcohol. Usually this happens when both the benzo and the subs are injected. The risk is lesser when you take both as directed (orally for benzos, sublingually for Sub) but the risk is still there. If you're looking for this sort of information, you can try Harm Reduction oriented sites like Bluelight."

Am I on too many medications? Here is a list of my medications..... Celexa (citalopram) Ativan (lorazepam) Methadone (methadone hcl) Dilaudid (hydromorphone) Opana ER (Oxymorphone) Cesamet (synthetic THC) Celebrex (Celecoxib) I'm 23 years old and male...... Have pretty bad health......Can still walk but am in alot of pain.......... I feel like a zombie most of the time but it's the only way I can manage living in such bad pain........ Thanks for all your help

bodmodangel replied: "Absolutely."

lindsayleopard23 replied: "i'm guessing you have some issues? that's a lot of meds, yo."

Emmah replied: "Where is the pain and what is causing it?"

bluangel replied: "ugh yeah"

Lynn A replied: "Only your doctor or doctors can advise you on this. Make sure each doctor knows what the others are giving you. Keep journal on how you feel and be honest with your doctor so that he can adjust your medications as necessary. Be sure to note things such as trouble sleeping, eating, bathing, etc. Sounds like your in pain and with all this medication you must have been having trouble for awhile. By keeping a diary or journal you can be honest with your self and keep a good line of communication with your doctors."

sesame replied: "cant possibly say without an idea of what is wrong with you, be careful if you're taking methadone with lorazepam... whatever you do, do not drink alcohol !!!"

pharmacist help! Need to know if sister is on too much meds...? her doctor has her on Methadone for pain because other things werent working anymore...supposely. She is on 100mg Serequel, ambian cr, diet pills(phentremine),ativan and some kind of liquid pain killer i think codeine/codone. I feel like it is too much. My family and i are wanting to get help for her, i think she on way too much. She lives in a different state than us and has 2 young kids and we are worrying. Is this too much medication?

Josie826 replied: "It sure sounds like it to me. I thought the only reason a person was put on Methadone was for Heroin addiction. If she is a long term drug user, then she probably has to use a lot of drugs to thwart whatever pain she is in. I would suggest that you do get help for her, her childrens safety is at stake. The Serequel is for some sore of mental disorder, probably bi-polar, the Ambien is for problems with sleeping, the Ativan is for anxiey and I assume she is taking the codeine for some sort of pain she must be experiencing."

bmac replied: "WAY too much. 2 narcotics? Diet pills (are completely unnecessary) and she doesn't need Ambien CR and the Ativan. So she should only be on 1 narcotic, the Seroquel and EITHER the Ativan or Ambien CR (Ativan is MUCH more addictive, though)."

Hestia replied: "Wow-she is being over medicated. Is the same doctor giving her these things? Methadone and codeine on top of the ativan is crazy!!! Just because medicine is prescribed doesn't mean that they can't be lethal. There is such a thing as "accidental overdose." I believe that she may be getting tolerate of the pain medications and therefore, requires stronger ones and that indicates a possible addiction. Someone needs to have a serious talk with her. You could try going to a pharmacist and ask what are the effects of all of these meds-like ask them if and how they counteract."

Freedom replied: "Methadone is very dangerous especially when taken with other medicines. She is on more medicine than a person with cancer. I would worry and do something other than a polite conversation with her ASAP before you get that 5:00pm phone call from one of her kids telling you "mommy didn't wake up today""

Curious Kitty replied: "You have a legitimate concern I suppose. You don't mention what condition your sister has that has caused her doctor to prescribe methadone etc. A lot of people think that methadone is only used to help heroin addicts. Wrong. Methadone is also used to treat chronic pain, when the patient has become tolerant to other pain meds, and they don't relieve the pain anymore. Liquid pain killer doesn't sound right. If she's able to swallow pills, there's no reason for a doctor to prescribe a liquid pain med. However, there is a liquid form of methadone. It's usually acquired in "methadone clinics". THESE are the places that give out methadone doses to recovering heroin and opiate addicts. You may feel that it is too much. It may be. But your sister and her doc are the only ones that know for sure. You will not be able to find out anything from her doc or pharmacist due to privacy laws. Talk to your sister, try to see if you can get her to open up to you. If she needs rehab, who will look after her kids while she's away? Are you willing to help if she needs it? Good luck."

Mandy VZ replied: "If she is on the Methadone for chronic pain, the liquid medication (Likely OxyFast drops, I take them too) is for breakthrough pain. If she is getting all these medications from one daoctor then he knows what she is on and she is not over medicated. I myself take Oxycontin, OxyFast Solution (both for chronic pain), and Klonipin to help me sleep at night. You and your family don't have chronic pain and shouldn't judge whether your sister is on too much medication. (I would mostly be concerned about the diet pills.) My family does this to me and it has caused an un-fixable rift between us. The fact is, I have chronic pain and I will for a long time if not forever, and I HAVE to take these medications to be pain-free and be able to live my life. All they see is "NARCOTICS!!!!", so they judge unfairly. I'm not an addict, I take only my prescribed dose, I do not get high from my meds (or sleepy or anything else except relief). Most chronic pain patients are the same way. You shouldn't judge what you don't understand. Also, for the previous answerer: I can swallow pills fine, but the doc prescribed the liquid Oxycodone for me for breakthrough pain because it contains 20 mgs per mL of liquid, and I can mix it in juice and drink and get relief within 10 minutes, where a pill only comes in 5, 15, or 30 mgs (Plain oxycodone) and takes 30 minutes minimum to work. MANY pain patients take the Oxycodone drops. Again, don't judge what you don't understand."

jloertscher replied: "nobody here (myself included) is qualified to render medical judgement on what is third hand and incomplete information. I know you mean well for your sister.......but butt out. Your interference will only make here dig her heels in more. Until she asks for help, you can't give it."

pharma info replied: "Methadone is to help her get off these meds without too many side effects (including pain). Ambian is a sleep aid for people who suffer from insomnia.Serequel is used to treat schizophrenia or a manic depressive disorder. The liquid codein is usually given for a persistant cough but may be used as a pain killer which is probably the case here. The only medication she should be on right now is the methadone in order to get off Ambian and the codein and the ativan. If she is a diagnosed schizophrenic or a manic- depressive patient, she should continue to take the seroquel under her doctor's close supervision. The ativan is not necessary (other sleep aid and also relieves anxiety) and the amphetamines are pointless right now. If she wants to lose weight, she first needs to get off the aboved mentioned meds which can retain a lot of water and then focus on loosing weight the old fashioned way.( healthy diet and steady exercise)The Ambian dose is tricky and requires constant care until the right dose is found.Hopefully, that is already the case for her. So, In a nut shell, the methadone is for her to get off the pain meds and the sleep aids and the seroquel needs to be watched closely by her md. Make sure she only sees one md. She absolutely cannot drink alcohol at all and needs to avoid driving until she has gone through her withdrawal and her md has given her the ok. So, she is now in the process of getting off some of her meds. Support her and keep a close eye on her appointments. She is problably able to function quite well and take care of her kids (we call that a functional addict) but once she gets off her meds, she will truly be more of herself again. Good luck and don't hesitate to contact me if you have more questions Annie"

I need an honest opinion on my drug use, and if it's a big deal or not.? I am turning 15 in two weeks, I go to a special charter school in Houston, I am in all honors classes, have a 3.8 GPA, have many friends, have a good relationship with my family, and i am constantly abusing pharmaceuticals recreationally. I am extremely interested in pharmacuticals, and i plan to study abroad in France and work for the pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis when I'm older. I know the stereotype that all teenagers think they know everything, but when i come to drugs, i know my way around the half lives, mode of action, which drugs are metabolized by the CY2D6 gene of nearly every abuse-able pharmaceutical under Walgreen's roof. I started experimenting with drugs when I was 12 years old, and i was upset and felt out of place when my mother re-married, i found some Vicodin my mother had for back pain, and i found it could not only ease pain but it could smooth the edges of my life. From then on i have used Adderall,Ativan,Klnopin,Oxycontin,Lortab,Kadian,Methadone, etc.

Underdog ♫ replied: "umm, dont take those drugs, they will kill you not a smart thing to do. just, i will pray for you."

Vic P replied: "You know the answer. Its like filling a barrel with water, one day its gonna overflow. But hey!! Its your call."

crazeecatlady replied: "If you know about drugs, then you know it's all about chemistry. You should also be familiar with the monographs regarding those drugs, and know that there are a LOT of drugs with undocumented side-effects, whether anybody admits it or not. Sooner or later, you WILL hit on a combo that will either kill you or fry your brain so that you'll won't be able to pump gas, let alone become a pharmacist or chemist. You, my young friend, have a problem. You can't see it because of the drugs; it's circular, and it won't quit. Stop NOW, before it's too late."

The Gunners replied: "I think it's bad for you in the long term and it may cause bad illness to you in the future"

NIESHA M replied: "First of all, why are you using prescription drugs? I also think that you should look at the reasons why you are using prescription drugs, then try to get help."

swingoutsister replied: "You'll never get to France by playing with tablets..you may actually damage yourself. Start getting interested in Chinese herbal medicine. Its amazing what it can cure and books in English are available from Amazon or a good public library. Start helping people now before you become a pharmacologist."

William B replied: "First off Happy New Year and a Happy Birthday. I say that knowing that in all likelihood you will be dead by your next birthday in 2009. Yes, you know everything there is to know about medications. My Psychiatrist who went to doctor's school and then to mental doctor's school, once prescribed a combination of medications to me that interacted badly. It was not a side effect listed in the PDR or any other place. I was lucky because he had told me a long time ago that when I take a new medication be sure to watch out for side effects and if I have one go see him or the emergency room pronto. So what I am telling you, you smart 15 year old, is that you are a junky. You know how much is too much. You know it all. Well, junky, one day you will take all those drugs you know everything about and not wake up. So wake up and smell the roses and get some mental illness help to get you off your addiction."

jordan replied: "i think its great that you'r so interested in pharmaceuticals and that you want to be a pharmacist but that doesn't mean you have to try all of them especially at your age. its really unhealthy to be taking all of the pills at such a young age. just start studying about all the drugs so when its time for college you'll be way ahead of the game. but stop taking all of the drugs so you won't have any illnesses by the time you're ready for college. if you can't stop yourself bc maybe you're depressed when your mother got re-married i think it would be really good if you saw a therapist. they really do help."

as.a.kite replied: "Man hook me UP. :) Just kidding. I honestly don't think drug use is a big deal at all. As long as you have your priorities for your future straight. Some people might say that makes no sense... but I think you would understnad what I mean by that."

agsf a replied: "i say, if you can function, youre okay. just be aware of side effects and stuff."

Marty G replied: "You just mentioned all of your great qualitys. You just admitted that you have a lot going for you and a lot to lose if you continue down this path. Let me give you my experience and you can make an educated decision from that. I started out recreationaly dabbling with vicodin and oxy's ETC.. I ended up a heroin addict. I now have been clean for 16 months. But I had to endure months of hell to get where I am today. This same thing has happened to dozens od people that I know. Some went to harder opiates (heroin) and some lost everything on just Vicodin. A few of my friends and acquaintences are dead from either suicide, or other drug related deaths. As addicts, we are usually intelliegent caring, and kind people. But we take drugs to self-medicate. To cope with life and stress. Or to numb ourselves from the past or future. Addiction is a progressive disease. What you consume now makes you feel as if you are functioning better and dealing with life better. But eventually that will progress. You will need more or stronger or use more often just to get the same affect. But there will be a day when even using hundreds of dollars of heroin a day doesn't numb ourselves anymore. I tell you this from my experience. And from the experience of hundreds of other who I have spoken with. Working a 12 step program with an experienced sponser will teach you how to let go of the past and how to best handleourselves. I highly recomend it. I now function better than I did before I did drugs. I fought my addiction for years. Mainly because I was a highly functioning addict. Even on heroin. But I was oblivious to the destruction that I was causing. My world finally crumbled in all at once, and I lost everything. My marriage, my job, I was facing 30 felonies (due to being around the wrong people). I lost the respect of all of my loved ones. Not to count the pain that I put everyone through. My ex-wife to this day crys and balls when I speak to her. She still loves me but can't understand why my behaviors were so awful. That is a hard pill to swallow. We only talk about once every 6 months. Please, get help throgh an anynomous program. You will not regret it. But you will have many regrets to live with if you don't. The only people that I have seen who have left drugs successfiully were those who went through A.A. or N.A. I wish you the best. Take Care and e-mail me anytime. Marty P.S. It may not appear as a big deal, but it is and it will soon appear that way if you continue this path. Thats how addiction works. Cunning, Baffling and powerful."

Where are Benzodiazepines derived from?(read details)? I've always wondered how Benzodiazepines come from like Valium, Xanax, Ativan, and Klonopin. It's no big secret where Opiates like Codeine, Morphine, Heroin, Hydromorphone (Dilaudid), Oxycodone (Percodan), Oxymorphone (Numorphan), Hydrocodone (Vicodin), Meperidine (Demerol), Fentanyl, Methadone (Dolophine), Darvon, Talwin come from. We all know they come from Opium which comes from the poppy plant. I know all these pills are made by chemical synthesis but they all are derived from the poppy plant/flower. Is Benzos completely synthetic (man made) or is there a certain plant that they come from too?

zazibi1 replied: "benzos are straight up synthetic."

the all knowing replied: "Good for you. Your herb garden will require no extra room as these compounds are totally synthetic."

Help with getting Prescription(s), multiple? Alright, I know everyone hears a lot of: "How do I get Oxycontin/Roxycodone/Morphine/Lortabs/Vicodin/Methadone/etc. without a prescription?", but that's not what I'm asking. I have serious bodily injuries, so much so that doctors told me I would plrobably always be in a fair amount of pain--right before they refuse to prescribe me ANYTHING (not even ibuprofen, which doesn't help, but I'm trying to express the seriousness of the situation; they won't give me anything due to my drug record). I need pain pills to be able to work, move right, and even think. Serious pain, especially back/neck/arm/leg pain all at once, is a very debilitating condition, and it has caused me to completely revamp how I live from day to day. I can't keep a job--I'm always being sent home due to pain, I can't do anything physically active--without the pain pills, I can't even help being sluggish and subdued all the day through, and I have to spend all of the little money that I do have on pain pills just to feel good enough to face the day. Now, before you start labelling me a drug-user and using all of those other misplaced names on me, understand that I USED to be a drug user, hence the drug record. But, I quit doing drugs entirely (except the xanax/ativan prescriptions I had at the time), and I was driving a convertible at 130mph, no seatbelt and the top down--I was extremely upset, someone who was close to me my entire life, even raised me a significant amount of the time, died a few days earlier; it's pretty obvious where this is going: I had an absolutely HORRIFIC car wreck in which my neck vertebrae, upper back vertebrae and middle back vertebrae were broken/fractured, my right shoulder had a 1" rebar go thorugh it, shattering my right shoulder blade and the surrounding bones structure (it's visually misshapen, you can see it obviously, through the skin, from a good 10/15 feet away), my left elbow had a rebar go through it and I lost most of the feeling in my left forearm, save sharp needle-like pain constantly, my ribs were cracked on both sides as skin was ripped out 1/2 inch deep, jammed my right knee so bad it got destroyed basically-I walk with a limp even with pain meds sometimes now, and several other not-sobad as these injuries occurred, as well. This all happenned close to two years ago now, and they've said that I will have healed up as much as possible in 4 months time--that I should have been pretty much done healing already, actually. Well, I still can't do a damn thing hardly, my whoile life has been stripped from me--due, simply, to the fact that no doctor will even consider that I am acutally HURTING from these injuries (also, I've had dozens of documented injuries throughout my life, starting at age 7--I've always "played hard":), and when they do believe that I need the medicine, they tell me that I'm too big of a risk to send home with even 60 lortabs-2 a day for one month-something that does close to nothing for me (I have to take 4 or so to begin pain relief). Please, from a desperate and depressed 20 year old, someone try to help e figure something out. I'm out of options, short of selling everything I own and getting to a country that wouldn't treat me like this to start over, pain free. I'm young, and I have a lot fo potential to do great thigs in this world--I have always excelled in school, but can't even attend anymore, becuase I can't concentrate for the pain. Again, please, someone help me--anything will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your concern, it really does mean a lot to me that someone, somewhere understand--even if you're not a doctor, and I don't actually know you personally. If anyone does have any suggestions, or has any advice or information that I could use, feel free to e-mail me (for confidentiality purposes). Also, to make things clear, I'm not trying to ask, or convince, anyone to sell me any pills--I am attempting to avoid having to buy them illegally, so I can move on with my life. I have love for all those that care, try to help, and give kind words. Thank you again, Jon Sirmons

WoW User >.< replied: "Wow...That's really sad. I'am sorry to hear that =(. I don't know anything at the moment but I can try to look. If you're in that much pain and the doctors won't prescribe anything that just shows how much they truly don't care. The only thing I can think of at the moment is try going to a different hospital or something but it sounds like you can't. I hope someone can help you with this. Sorry =(."

Elliott M replied: "you should go to a pain management center and if there tests anresearch verifies thet much pain and no options they will get you what will control the pain.the only way not to feel any pain is to die. they only can control it or lessen it to a great degree.but quite frankly your question sound like a junkies scam song"

Hannah R replied: "If your Doctor says that you're probably always going to be in a fair amount of pain and doesn't prescribe you painkillers then he must think you can handle it. Seriously, you're 20 years old, you should try to man-up and deal with it. If he says you should be healed by 4 months and it's been two years then you either have a mental problem telling yourself you need pain-pills or there is something still wrong with you and you should get x-rayed and figure this out. Any professional Doctor would be able to tell if you are actually in pain and would prescribe you something to help with your daily pain management, regardless your drug history. It may not be the pain-killer you want but what you want isn't always what you need. Your 20 years old, far to young to become dependant on pain-killers."

Sandra M replied: "Go to a Pain Management Specialist. Sorry that all of this has happened to you. My brother was involved in a bad accident years ago and he still has problems from it and probably will for the rest of his life. Also, have you talked to an attorney about suing for the car accident, I mean I don't know if that is possible or not, but worth a try. Oh my brother went to a Pain Management Clinic and they actually gave him medicine to help with his pain. He suffers all the time too, he now has Rheumatoid Arthritis in addition to his old injuries."

best natural painkiller? i have recently been experimenting with herbs and other legal substances for anxiety reasons etc. i have tried kava kava (an interesting little experience, but too much prep work for a short unreliable peak). i have tried ativan (not perscribed to me, made my arms kind of numb but about the same stuff as kava kava). and i also use alcohol sometimes and know it can nullify pain. now all these things do i zombify me, i want to feel sedated ans euphoric. i have codeine in my possession but want to stay away from opiates and semithythetic opiates. though i might try a completely synthetic like methadone. i hear kratom is a amazing, but is it as strong as it's RX brothers? thank you.

Toad replied: "kratom is like the weakest opiate like drug. legal drugs aren't as safe, "good" as illegal ones. The best natural pain killer I know of is Marijuana."

Anoosha replied: "There are reasons to your anxiety; maybe your hormones are out of balance or your Thyroid is over producing Thyroid hormones (again hormonal imbalance), you maybe deficient of specific vitamins and/or minerals, etc. I would suggest you first go and have your blood tested for them. Here are a few things you can do & take.. Vitamin B-complex (therapeutic dosage like B50), passiflower tincture, Valerian root extract, poppy seed extract, Melatonin (an amino acid to help your mind & body to calm down), calcium & magnesium supplements, healthy diet, exercise, direct sunlight, etc... And also constipation causes mood swings and depression so eat lots of fibers and vegetables. Good Luck."
